Google’s the latest to announce that they’re investing more resources towards developing their own chips. How has the chip shortage impacted your ability to source equipment for your employees? Do you think these homegrown chips from Google, Apple, etc will alleviate the shortage?
WSJ is reporting that a large investment firm is moving to a hybrid workplace model after vaccinations are widely available. So if even Wall Street is going remote (slowly), how important is WFH to you after the pandemic is over?
Apple announced that it’s discontinuing the iMac Pro, which several of my friends love. It reminded me of how I used to think Netbooks would be the next big thing (I know). What was your favorite product before it got discontinued? Anything you wish you could still provision?
Any recommendations or methods for centralized logging for both macOS and Windows devices? Looking at Nxlog (which only covers macOS in the enterprise edition). Would ultimately be parsed through our SIEM, just having a deep search for the macOS part with conflicting info.
Hi everyone, first time posting - wanted to ask if anyone has conducted an IT specific, employee onboarding survey. I’m working on one now (will be happy to share it once done), and looking for additional ideas. - We aren’t hiring very many ppl, but over the last quarter there have been enough (and our first, remote-first) hires to warrant a decent sample size. Topics I’m currently focusing on are:Equipment & Physical Tech (we issue new MacBooks to employees) Access Support and Understanding (i.e. could you effectively work on your first day, could you find answers to your questions) Remote Tools & Apps Technology Onboarding Experience (do you feel welcome, do you feel productive)Thanks!
Currently we buy Direct with stores in US/UK/Canada. We are global though and have employees all over world. Currently employees outside these countries purchase their own laptop from however they want to source it - obviously not ideal but the struggle is finding a vendor that can ship everywhere else (and make it not to painless). I’ve talked with CDW but they want to setup individual entities in each country and haven’t had luck with that. Any other options out there?🗨 Link to Slack thread
If you aren't on reddit, or haven't seen it anywhere else, this is the best home office hack I've seen in a while.https://www.reddit.com/r/lifehacks/comments/ieq7ly/i_jumped_on_the_cheap_vinyl_flooring_as_a_chair/🗨 Link to Slack thread

Does anyone have a suggestion for a great remote support utility (TeamViewer, Bomgar, Etc.) With everyone working remote it’s getting a bit hard to do some support things just by text and screensharing via Google Meet 😅🗨 Link to Slack thread
Hey all, curious if anyone has done any research on what an employer is responsible for supplying for employees working from home. We are mainly looking at internet access and what legal requirements might exists in different states. If your job requires the internet, like SO many jobs, but we are no longer in offices, does not mean we have to provide internet for them for WFH? We have already accepted that we will have a WFH equipment budget for making a comfortable work space, but we don’t want to dive into internet connections if we don’t have to, seems like a pit of despair I’d like to stay out of.🗨 Link to Slack thread
