What was your favorite movie as a young person and why?

Answer this question to get one entry into a drawing for one of three mystery prizes, as mentioned here (the rules for the game also live there).

Oh man, I had many favorite movies. As a super youth, I loved Beauty and the Beast, or so they tell me. I’m 90% sure it’s the only movie my parents owned on VHS, so that’s what I watched and that’s what I loved.

As a marginally older youth, I really loved Miss Congeniality and Legally Blonde. To this day, I can quote those movies all the way through. It’s a gift and a curse.

As to why, I always loved the idea of women breaking the stereotypes while ALSO IMMERSING THEMSELVES IN THE STEREOTYPES. Heck yes, you can be a girly girl and also go to law school, you tell them, Elle. Of COURSE you can be a kick-butt FBI agent and also win a beauty pageant, no one can stop you, Gracie.

My favorite movie was Monty Pythons quest for the holy grail. Purely because of the absurdity of it. I had so many awkward moments showing it to friends and just making them sit through the super long black screen at the end, I would die laughing and they’d all be annoyed.

I feel like I had a different “favorite” for each mood. It’ll sound super cliche, but Star Wars was (and still is) one of my favorite movies as a kid. It was one of the few movies that allowed me to actually mentally escape the real world and immerse myself in the movie’s universe.

I had too many favorite movies, but three of them were Flight of the Navigator, Back to the Future, and at Christmas time… Home Alone

My favorite movie growing up (and still to this day) is Aliens. It has the right mix of action, scary monsters and just a great storyline that sits with you. I’m also a sucker for hard sci-fi movies, so it just really stands the test of time with me.

OMG I loved watching movies as a kid, so much so that my friend jokingly referred to my home as"Video City" (think blockbuster video). So, it's hard to name a single film alone for my favourite. I will say that I will never get tired of watching "The Goonies" or "Back to the Future" though. I can write those verbatim in many parts I'm sure!

For the "why", well time travel is really cool (if you're going to build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?), and whoo wouldn't want to be a part of The Goonies!? Playing out with your friends, having an adventure, and saving your neighbourhood with PIRATE TREASURE!?

This is hard to say as a fan of space and fantasy epics growing up, but my favorite movie was The Hunt for Red October. It starred my favorite James Bond (Sean Connery), if you close your eyes during the scenes with Jack Ryan’s friend Admiral Greer you can hear Darth Vader, Scott Glenn (Silverado) was the American sub commander, and there was also this young but exceptionally talented actor named Alec Baldwin.

“When he reached the New World, Cortez burned his ships. As a result his men were well motivated.”

I was a weird kid.

Young person covers a lot of time, but Back to the Future has been a favorite for as long as I can remember.

Why? probably because I’m a nerd.
