Do any of you do daily stand ups with your team? One on one or full team?

My team is 2 people, so we do a morning chat every morning.

Hard to keep on track if all the focused moderator types are missing 😅😳 just not my strength.

Haha @dominik I hear ya.
We are 5 people, and have been doing weekly meetings but I want to do a daily quick update and not sure if it should be one on one or all. I am leaning towards all, so that everyone is on the same page and can help eachother

We do 3 a week. Mondays our east coast and west coast based team members do them separately, Tuesday we do them all together, and Thursdays we do them in a Slack channel.

We do an official daily standup through standup hero, but also do a “blocker/coffee” check in to get some face time in the AM for a couple of minutes

Never heard of Standup Hero, going to check that out. We also do a daily optional coffee meetup but thats not for biz talk, just to shmooze

Will comment, per Dominik and Tucker’s response, that with a team of 12, we have struggled to keep our standups on task. The Monday standups with half the team are 15 minutes, and the Tuesday ones are 30, because we can NEVER get through everyone in less time than that. Also I think on Mondays, our boss joins both standups, not just the one for his side of the map.

Definitely have to balance chatter/questions with just getting through everything and circling back later.

The article @jesse posted on his LinkedIn has some good info: https://geekbot.com/blog/daily-standup-meeting/amp/

Oh thanks for dropping that @ctucker, I forgot to come back and post it here.
I ended up doing all 5 of us on the call today and for the next few weeks to see how that goes, so far it was really quick What did you do yesterday, what are you doing today, is there anything blocking you that I can help with.
Seemed to work well so far

I mean yeah that’s basically it. covers the bases, moves pretty fast relatively speaking.

I am trying to be super strict about only keeping to those topics and pushing anything else out to a different medium or meeting

At first I think that’s probably good? when people first start doing standups they tend to be overly descriptive - it’s VERY clear when you’re standing up in channel haha since the literal size of your standup message is bigger.
Over time though you can loosen it up. Now we sometimes include brief announcements, happy birthday singing, and sometimes get-to-know-you questions in ours.

Oh those are good ideas too. Thanks!

Our fully-remote Zoom singing is 00f3dfda6a0f5be0.png top notch. happy to offer pointers.

I think one of the more challenging things with standups is people being honest about blockers/understanding what might actually be blocking them, so sometimes we rephrase as “how do you need help”

We have video stand ups on Monday and Friday and the rest of the days we use an internal, custom made slack bot to do asynchronous stand ups.
