When provisioning a new user, do you ask the user’s naming preference or do you stick to a standard?
When provisioning a new user, do you ask the user’s naming preference or do you stick to a set standard? Example, if there’s an Elizabeth Grey who goes by Beth, do you go with bgrey@domain or egrey@domain.
There’s a story floating around that the SolarWinds breach was caused by an intern who set a password to “solarwinds123” and then shared it on GitHub. I doubt anyone has made this big of a mistake, but we’ve all made mistakes, right? Brave enough to share yours?
Can you believe it’s been 10 years since we saw the first Chromebook? Me neither. Some IT leaders we’ve spoken to in the past have wondered if non-engineering folks should be provisioned Chromebooks. Our CEO has posed the same question. What do you think? Could most people get by with something like a Chromebook—and do you think they should be able to? Seems especially realistic for students and teachers.
Does anyone have any plans or thoughts on how you’re going to adjust your office technology setup for more hybrid in-person/remote work?
I know some orgs are talking about what returning to the office might look like. Does anyone have any plans or thoughts on how you’re going to adjust your office technology setup for more hybrid in-person/remote work? more small meeting rooms? changing white boards for smart boards? different conference room a/v setup?
I used to work at an Apple Store and had a bad habit of telling people that Macs didn’t have virus problems. Now Apple is admitting there’s too much malware on macOS. Are you treating your orgs Macs any differently than you used to in the early-mid 2000s?
Does anyone know of a system or implementation that notifies a user when their Google Drive file has not been modified in a set amount of time?
Hi all, the org I work with uses Google Workspeace and has pretty strict retention rules for documents stored in Google MyDrive (documents not stored in a Shared Drive will be deleted after 6 months of not being updated). One issue we’re running into is that folks’ files are being deleted without warning as this retention rule is put in place in Google Vault which doesn’t have any notifications native to the system .Tl;dr — Does anyone know of a system or implementation that notifies a user when their Google Drive file has not been modified in a set amount of time?
I've noticed more and more job listings on LinkedIn and #job-openings have excluded salary/pay expectations up front although some tout transparency being a core value. Is that still taboo? I've read conflicting articles that say that barrier should be taken down. Thoughts or opinions?
