Has anyone seen or created anything about how an org should think about assigning access for a new/existing app?
Has anyone seen or created anything about how an org should think about assigning access for a new/existing app? I’m working on something now to try to get people in the mindset of using our structure we’re building out in okta (based on HR Department, Division, and Product Teams) but curious if there’s anything out there I can reference?
I wrote a book and published it last week on surviving the first three years of a new IT Leadership role
Hey all, if you are currently mentoring anyone to be an IT Leader or know of anyone who just started their first IT Leader gig, I wrote a book and published it last week (don’t worry - it’s free) on surviving the first three years of a new IT Leadership role. Please feel free to pass it along. https://www.longwalk.consulting/library. I also put up all of my IT templates there for free download as well.
There’s a rant floating around on the sysadmin subreddit about a CIO who says the company has “bigger fish to fry” than things like MFA. Is this an isolated incident in your opinion, or can you think of other sysadmins (yourself included) who are facing similar challenges in 2021?
This story about Microsoft continuing to offer Office licenses in perpetuity caught my attention today (partially for the LOLs at the writer saying Microsoft is doing this against their will). The last time I bought anything like this to own forever was probably 2006. Have you had any recent use cases for buying a license for a user outright like this?

I’m including this in tomorrow’s Monitor newsletter and would love to hear your thoughts on Trello’s latest initiative to become your “command center” for all your productivity apps. Is this type of centralization something you want in an app like Trello, or does it introduce other concerns that your IT teams might have to manage?

What Asset management tools do you use? Looking for one that works with a MDM tool that can manage Macs.
What Asset management tools do you use? Looking for one that works with a MDM tool that can manage Macs. Jamf Pro is over the top but seems to be the only one that works with a lot of the Asset Management tool and automatically populates information. A huge bonus would be one that works with Okta's Zero Trust management tool.
Anyone have any general guidance/best practices/things to avoid as you rolled out Slack in your own organizations?
My organization has approved us to roll out Slack to our network office staff. I know that Slack provides its own "introduce Slack to the workforce" like articles, but was wondering if anyone had any general guidance/best practices/things to avoid as you rolled out Slack in your own organizations?
Any recommendations for a time tracking app? I have used toggl before, but i resorted back to using a spreadsheet. Challenge I had with traditional time tracking apps was that I would often forget to stop tracking it. Using keyboard shortcuts in Google sheets with some basic math formula (subtraction, rounding, etc) along with pivot tables/data studio works for me but is not really a scalable solution. Also considering app sheet solution as well, but being able to quickly switch between tasks is important to me because I'm usually switching back and forth between tasks, and I'm much quicker on keyboard than with a mouse

Does anyone know of a way to programmatically gather what software exists on each employees computer?

Hello! Looking for some ideas on how to handle recurring meetings with deactivated hosts. We have Okta deactivating leavers and downgrades their Zoom account to ‘Basic’. For the leavers who have recurring meetings scheduled for others, how do you handle the ownership of those meetings? We can’t transfer them to a container account since Zoom only supports 2 concurrent meetings for one user. Trying to see if there’s a smart way to do it without other participants reaching out to Zoom admins to manually transfer meeting ownership.
